Investing in what matters since 1869.
The bank of you...founded on the principles of a hometown bank.
bankESB (formerly Easthampton Savings Bank) was established in 1869 in response to the needs of a growing community. The Civil War had ended four years earlier, and the town of Easthampton was entering a period of steady growth. Looking for a way to facilitate citizen’s prosperity in both a secure and convenient manner, several Easthampton businessmen decided to establish a local savings bank.
The newly founded bank was then located in the office of the First National Bank of Easthampton. Mary Sawyer, a four-year-old whose father, E. H. Sawyer, was a Vice President of the bank, was the first person to open an account. Eight accounts, totaling $487.15, were opened on the first day of business.
Three years later, the Trustees of the Bank voted to open their own office in the Mayher building at 105 Main Street. Then, in 1953, the bank built its own facility where North Hall of the former Williston Campus once stood. Since then, the bank has opened nine additional locations throughout the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts (Easthampton, Southampton, Northampton, Hadley, South Hadley, Belchertown, Westfield and Agawam).
As the bank continues to grow, so does its commitment to its communities. Recently, The Boston Business Journal named bankESB a Top Charitable Corporate Contributor in the region and a Top Charitable Corporate Volunteer in the state. Daily Hampshire Gazette readers also voted bankESB as the Best Place to get a Loan.
